CLAT 2027: Exam Date, Eligibility, Fees and Syllabus Explained

If you are aiming for a seat in one of India's National Law Universities, CLAT 2027 is the exam that stands between you and your law degree. The Consortium of NLUs is set to release the official notification soon, and there is a lot to track before that happens. Let's break it down so you don't have to refresh the website every hour like I did during my own exam prep days.

When Will CLAT 2027 Notification Come Out?

The official notification will appear on consortiumofnlus.ac.in. Registration is expected to open on August 1, 2026, giving candidates about three months to apply. The last date to register is likely to fall in the last week of October 2026. Mark these dates on your calendar, or better yet, set a reminder on your phone so you don't miss the window.

Tentative CLAT Exam Date 2027

The exam is expected to take place on December 6, 2026. It will be a pen and paper test, conducted offline across various centres in India. No last-minute internet issues to worry about here, just make sure your pen works.

Who Conducts CLAT?

The Consortium of National Law Universities conducts CLAT every year for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes. As of 2026, 26 NLUs take part in this exam, offering over 5,600 seats combined. NLU Delhi is the only exception, since it holds its own entrance test called AILET. Apart from the NLUs, more than 60 other law colleges across the country also accept CLAT scores.

CLAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility rules are simple:

  • For the UG programme, you need to pass Class 12 or an equivalent exam.
  • For the PG programme, you need an LLB degree from a recognised law college.

There is no upper age limit for CLAT. So whether you are 18 or 45, you can still apply if you meet the academic requirement.

CLAT 2027 Application Fee

The fee structure depends on your category:

CLAT 2027 Syllabus: What to Study

The syllabus tests how well you read, reason and apply logic, not how many facts you can cram. It has five sections:

  • English Language: vocabulary, grammar correction, synonyms, antonyms and tenses
  • GK and Current Affairs: arts, culture, international affairs and recent events
  • Quantitative Techniques: arithmetic, averages, percentages, ratios and mixtures
  • Logical Reasoning: analogies, relationships, syllogisms and cause-effect questions
  • Legal Reasoning: legal maxims, landmark Supreme Court judgments, legal GK and the Indian Constitution

The official syllabus will be confirmed once the brochure is out, but this list gives you a solid starting point.

How to Download the CLAT 2027 Notification PDF

Once released, follow these steps to get your hands on the brochure:

  1. Visit consortiumofnlus.ac.in
  2. Click on the CLAT 2027 tab on the homepage
  3. Find the notification PDF link on the screen
  4. Open it and go through the exam details carefully
  5. Save a copy for later, because you will need to refer back to it

What the Notification Will Include

The brochure will cover everything you need before you apply:

Read it more than once. Law students are supposed to read the fine print, so start practising now.

Keep Checking for Updates

The Consortium usually rolls out information in stages, so keep an eye on the official website for the latest news on registration and exam dates. Preparing early gives you a real edge, since CLAT tests reasoning and comprehension more than memory. A calm, steady approach to prep works better than last-minute panic, trust me on this one.
