CHSE Introduces Improvement Exam for Odisha Plus Two Students in 2026

Students in Odisha who have passed their Plus Two exams just got some good news. The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) will now let them retake one subject to improve their grades.

This is the first time CHSE is offering this option. The move follows a similar system that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has been running for years.

How the Improvement Exam Works

If you passed your Annual Higher Secondary Examination (AHSE) 2026 but feel you could have scored better in one subject, you can now appear for that exam again. You get to pick any one subject where you want to improve your marks.

School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond made the announcement on Wednesday. He said this step will help students compete better in national level entrance tests where every mark counts.

When Can Students Apply

The improvement exam will happen in the first week of July, along with the instant examination. CHSE will publish all the details and application forms on May 27.

Students need to visit their colleges to fill up the forms. The exam is open to both regular students and those who passed in previous years.

What About Fees

The fee structure is different for the two types of exams. Students appearing for the instant examination need to pay Rs 620. For the improvement exam, the fee is Rs 820.

The instant exam is for students who failed in just one subject but scored at least 210 marks out of 600 in total. These students get another chance to clear that one subject.

When Will Results Come Out

According to CHSE Controller of Examinations Prasanta Kumar Parida, results for both exams will be out within 60 days of the exam date. This gives students enough time to plan their college admissions.

Why This Change Matters

Many students perform well overall but feel they could have done better in one particular subject. Maybe it was exam day stress, or maybe they understand the subject better now. This new rule gives them that chance.

College admissions are getting more competitive. A few extra marks in one subject can make the difference between getting into your dream course or settling for something else. The improvement exam takes away some of that pressure.

What CBSE Does

CBSE has been running improvement exams for several years. Students who pass their board exams can reappear in one or more subjects. Many use this option to meet the cut off marks for competitive colleges.

Odisha students can now enjoy the same benefit. The playing field is more level now.

Who Can Apply

Any student who cleared AHSE 2026 can apply. It does not matter if you are a regular student or an ex regular student. The door is open to everyone who wants to improve their score in one subject.

Remember, you can only pick one subject. Choose the one where you feel you have the best chance of scoring higher marks.

What You Need to Do Next

Mark May 27 on your calendar. That is when CHSE will release the official notification with all the details. Visit your college on that day or soon after to get the application form.

Fill it out carefully. Pay the fee of Rs 820. Then start preparing for the exam in early July.

This is your chance to boost your Plus Two marks and open up better opportunities for your future. Make the most of it.
